SOFIA, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Two men attacked a referee before Sunday's Bulgarian Premier League match between Beroe Stara Zagora and CSKA Sofia forcing the game to be postponed, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.
'Before the match two men, 24 and 22, from the town of Stara Zagora hit referee Svetlozar Marinov twice in the face while the referee's team was walking in the stadium's corridor towards the dressing room,' the police officer told Reuters by telephone. 'They tried to escape but were detained by police.'
Local media said Marinov's nose was broken. The sport's commission at the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) is expected to take a decision on the incident this week, BFU's referee commission secretary Borislav Alexandrov said.
'I think that more serious sanctions should be imposed as to prevent such incidents in the future,' Alexandrov said.
The commission could impose a home ban on Beroe for a certain period and rule that the game should be played at another venue or award CSKA a win over Beroe. Beroe officials said they were not to blame for the incident.
