BELGRADE, March 14 (Reuters) - Reigning champions Red Star Belgrade won 2-1 at Sutjeska Niksic on Wednesday to stay four points clear at the top of the Yugoslav first division after surviving a late onslaught by the home side.
Red Star lead the table with 55 points from 21 matches ahead
of arch-rivals Partizan, who kept the title race alive with a
4-0 drubbing of Radnicki Kragujevac which put them on 51 points.
Obilic Belgrade also won and are third with 45 points.
Veteran Damir Cakar gave Niksic the lead in the fourth
minute but Branko Jelic equalised midway through the first half
and his strike partner Goran Drulic added a second on the
half-hour which proved sufficient for victory.
Red Star's Yugoslav international goalkeeper Aleksandar
Kocic denied the hosts a deserved draw with a string of superb
saves late in the match.
Partizan's striker Miladin Becanovic scored twice in his
team's win over lowly Radnicki Kragujevac. Zvonimir Vukic and
Nenad Miskovic also scored in the one-sided match.
Obilic laboured to a 1-0 win over second-from-bottom
Cukaricki Belgrade, midfielder Bojan Filipovic grabbing his 15th
goal of the season.
