STOCKHOLM, Nov 16 (Reuters) - First division AIK Stockholm said on Thursday they had appointed former Sweden manager Olle Nordin as coach to replace Scotsman Stuart Baxter.
Nordin, 50, coached the national squad from 1986 but
resigned after a disastrous World Cup campaign in 1990 when
Sweden lost all three of their first round matches 2-1,
including a humiliating defeat by Costa Rica.
He had coached IFK Gothenburg and teams in Norway and the
United Arab Emirates before returning to Sweden in 1997 and
taking over IFK Norrkoping.
Baxter quit this month after a disappointing season in which
big-spending AIK could manage only third in the Swedish first
division, saying he lacked motivation to continue.
AIK were league champions in 1998 and runners-up last year,
when they also won the Swedish Cup.
