French transfers: Brazilian signs for OM

MARSEILLE, France, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Sao Paulo striker Marcelo 'Marcelinho' Dos Santos has signed a four-year contract with French first division side Olympique Marseille, the club said on Monday.

The 25-year-old cost Marseille around 50 million francs ($7 million) and is expected to make his debut against Lens on Sunday. The club said that all formalities had been concluded and that Marcelinho has already trained with his new team mates. The deal took two weeks to conclude after Marseille were initially unable to reach an agreement with the player over his personal terms.

Marcelinho joined Sao Paulo from Rio Branco in 1997 and scored 16 goals last season. Marseille already have a Brazilian coach in Abel Braga and Marcelinho joins his compatriot Adriano, a midfielder, in the first-team squad.

Nantes sign Argentine striker Bustos on loan

NANTES, France, Aug 7 (Reuters) - French first division side Nantes on Monday signed Argentine striker Diego Bustos on loan for the 2000-2001 season.

Nantes president Kleber Bobin said in a statement his side had reached agreement with Argentinos Juniors to sign 25-year-old Bustos on loan with a option for a permanent transfer at the end of the loan period.

Bustos had a previous spell with Nantes, whom he joined from Ferrocarril Oeste in 1997-98. He played only 22 matches over three injury-plagued seasons before returning to Argentina.

Bustos will join his compatriot Nestor Fabbri, a defender who formerly played for Boca Juniors, at the Stade Beaujoire.

Sedan track Brogno

SEDAN, France, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Belgian international striker Toni Brogno is set to travel to France on Wednesday to discuss a transfer to French first division side Sedan.

Media reports on Monday said Sedan had reached agreement with Belgian side Westerlo on a deal for Brogno, who was the leading scorer in the Belgian first division with 30 goals last season.

Brogno, who missed out on a spot in Belgium's Euro 2000 squad and refused to sign a new deal with Westerlo, was last month close to joining another French side, Metz, but that deal fell through.

French sports daily L'Equipe said Sedan are prepared to pay 8 million francs ($1.2 million) for Brogno.
