BRUSSELS, July 12 (Reuters) - The rebirth of Belgian first division side Charleroi was completed on Tuesday when soft drinks company Chaudfontaine took control of the club, now led by former Belgian international Enzo Scifo.
Chaudfontaine will take 80 percent of Charleroi and set up a
new limited company called Sporting du Pays Noir to run the
football club. The remaining 20 percent will be underwritten by
a group led by Scifo, La Derniere Heure reported on Wednesday.
The newspaper said Chaudfontaine is investing more than 200
million Belgian francs (£3.1million) in the club, which has
struggled in recent years.
Last season, Charleroi only avoided relegation by taking
seven points from their last three matches.
Charleroi defender Philippe Albert, formerly with English
premier division club Newcastle United, is still
struggling to regain full fitness and is considering his future.
