Match Preview: Real Madrid - Real Sociedad
Soccernet.com

MADRID, November 16 (Primera Liga) - Two wins and a smattering of draws from 58 matches are all Real Sociedad have to show from their trips to the Bernabeu, so history dictates they will be up against it when they tackle Real Madrid tomorrow.

Reality is a different matter though, because Sociedad are top of the league and unbeaten after nine games while fifth-placed Real have yet to get near the form of which they should be capable.

Rather than Ronaldo and Raul, it has been Nihat Kahveci and Darko Kovacevic setting the Primera Liga alight with dazzling displays for Sociedad.

Tomorrow's match should be eye-catching as Real look to show their supporters that this will not be a season of domestic underachievement.

Real broke a run of four league games without a win against Rayo Vallecano last week but did little to calm anyone worried by their current form, with their 3-2 victory secured only in the last minute by a Luis Figo free-kick.

Real certainly do not worry Sociedad's in-form Turkish striker Nihat Kahveci, who is confident his pace can tear Madrid's central defence to shreds.

``They may be the best team in the world, but they are not in good form at the moment,'' said the striker who has scored six times in nine games this season.

Erring more on the cautious side was Sociedad midfielder Javi de Pedro who warned that Real still have an aura about them - in all departments.

``The game has got everything, it's in a great ground, there's the best team in the world out there and us - the league leaders,'' he said.

``Madrid are the champions of Europe and have some players who are able to turn a game on their own.

``Casillas, Raul, Morientes, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo and Guti - they are all great - I suspect even the groundsman is good.''

However, De Pedro also believes his side can travel home with the points in the bag.

``We are in a great spell of form and Madrid may respect us more because we are leaders,'' he suggested.

``I've suffered all sorts of results here and you don't beat Madrid every day, so we have to try and enjoy ourselves.''

Madrid have had their week occupied by their Champions League visit to Genk and the expectation surrounding the draw for the second phase of the competition.

It looks as if Vicente del Bosque will have to make some changes to his side with young defender Francisco Pavon replacing the injured Fernando Hierro.

He is boosted by the return of Raul following groin and stomach problems which had hampered him over the last couple of weeks.

Raul will come into the side for Zinedine Zidane, who is still suffering from back problems, meaning Santiago Solari will continue on the left of midfield.
