RENNES, August 9 (Ligue 1) - Troyes travel to Rennes tomorrow as they look fora bright ending to a harrowing week.
A 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Monaco was followed up by the news that anadministrative mistake would deprive them of their place in the Intertoto Cupfinal.
The French outfit unwittingly fielded an ineligible player, David Vairelles,in Wednesday night's game against Villarreal.
Defender Vairelles came on as a replacement for Mehdi Leroy in the 83rd minuteof Troyes 2-1 victory over the La Liga side at Stade de L'Aube.
However, UEFA confirmed in a press statement last night that the French playerhad not been properly registered, and therefore should not have taken part inthe competition.
Troyes had won the two-legged tie 3-1 on aggregate.
Despite this heavy blow to team morale, already at a low ebb after the Monacodebacle, centre-back Frederic Danjou is convinced his side have the innerstrength necessary to bounce back against Rennes.
``We had some very harsh words yesterday when we found out about ourdisqualification,'' the defender said, ``but we have to concentrate on newobjectives, and tomorrow I know that the team's strong collective spirit willhelp us react well.''
Rennes coach Philippe Bergeroo must contend with the loss of defender ArnaudLe Lan with an ankle injury while Bulgarian striker Georgi Ivanov, nicknamed`Gonzo', is a doubt due to a leg injury he picked up during last week's 1-0defeat to Montpellier.
