Left-back Numan will be hoping to bury the ghost of France 98, which saw him sent-off in controversial circumstances during the quarter-final against Argentina. Following his £5m move to Rangers in the summer of 98 he has had to fight off a series of nagging injuries and will be hoping his fortunes have changed after his strong end to the season with the Gers. Despite his troubles he has managed to Winston Bogarde from Rijkaard's plans and will be looking forward to combining with former PSV colleague Jaap Stam. Numan is classy on the ball for a defender, perhaps a legacy of starting his career as a left-winger, a switch encouraged by his current club coach Dick Advocaat. Must be hoping his country enjoy the same success that his club have domestically. Another gritty performance for the defender in the victory against France.
