Richard Gough
Club:
Shirt Number:
Position: Defender
Date of Birth: April 5, 1962
Birthplace: Stockholm, Sweden
Height: 6'1"

Profile:

One of the most decorated players in British football, he won nine consecutive Scottish Premier Division championships, three Scottish Cup wins and six League Cup wins as captain of Rangers.

Has earned 61 caps for Scotland and played in the World Cup campaigns of 1986 and 1990 and the Euro 92.

An accomplished defender who is strong but fair in the tackle, he is a fine distributor of the ball.

Made his debut with Dundee United at age 18 in 1980, and helped them to their first Premier Division championship in 1983. He moved to Tottenham Hotspur for the 1986-7 season, but went back to Rangers that summer.

Gough shelved plans to retire in order to renew a 20-year association with Walter Smith at Goodision.

The former Scottish international had returned to England after short-term contract with doomed Nottingham Forest in 1998-9, having moved to the City Ground in March 1999 from San Jose Clash, having also played for Kansas City Wizards in 1997.

Gough dismissed doubts about his age and fitness with a series of commanding performances before an injury at Leicester finished his season in April. Everton offered a further two year contract in March to extend the evergreen defender's career.

Was again impressive throughout the 2000/01 season, but he decided to quit the British game in May 2001 at the tender age of 39! Was thought to be considering a move to Major League Soccer in America.

Gough scored one goal in 42 appearances for the Toffees.
