Darren Fletcher
Club: Manchester United
Shirt Number: 31
Position: Midfielder
Date of Birth: February 1, 1984
Birthplace: Edinburgh, Scotland
Height: 6' 0''
Weight: 13.4

Profile:

A Scottish youth international who is seen as the best of the current crop of youngsters at Old Trafford. In fact, he is seen as the next David Beckham.

Sir Alex Ferguson has said of the youngster: 'I know (former Scotland coach) Craig Brown has been looking at the boy and there is no question he can go all the way at the highest level. But he needs time to build his strength before Scotland start playing him.'

Described by one United coach as a 'monster', Fletcher has all the attributes to be a complete midfielder in Patrick Vieira vein.

So good a prospect that Roy Keane tried to use his Irish roots as a means to turn him into a man in green. This was rebuffed and Fletcher has committed himself to Scotland, much to Berti Vogts' relief.

After the events of summer 2002 Keane himself may allow himself a smile at the fact that 'Fletch' remained a sweaty.
