A busy midfielder who puts the accent on playing in a positive way, Hendrie worked his way through the ranks at Villa Park and is now a major part of the first-team scene.
Made his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers in December 1995 - it's hard to imagine he's been around so long. Was Villa's Young Player of the Season for 1997/98.
His performances improved so rapidly that he was called into the England team in 1998, with Kevin Keegan giving him his debut against the Czech Republic in November. And he almost scored as well.
Brings sharp runs, clever passing and a fair share of goals to the team.
His progressed slowed somewhat, with former Villa boss John Gregory claiming the player needed to knuckle down. A number of needless red cards also has not helped his case.
Lost his place towards the end of the 2001/02 season, but has the skill to come back. By the end of that season, Hendrie had played 184 games for the club, scoring 20 goals in the process.
