Wembley: Demolition time (BenRadford/Allsport) |
The deal for the £757million new Wembley was finally agreed last week after years of delays. The new 90,000 seater stadium is due to open in 2006.
The hefty price tag makes it among the most expensive in the world
and around £161million of the total cost will come from public funds,
including £120million of lottery cash.
Of the total cost, £352million will go on basic construction,
£120million in buying land, £93million on demolition and fitting out,
£86million management costs, £85million in finance fees and interest
and £21million on infrastructure.
Part of the development will see the renovation of Wembley Park
Tube station to allow it to handle 40,000 people per hour.
The stadium itself will feature a 'triumphant arch' which helps
operate a mobile roof in a design, which is a joint venture between
the company owned by Lord Foster and international architecture firm
HOK Sport.
The stadium will also be able to stage athletics by installing a
removable platform.
