Addicks skipper visits Canada for surgery

Charlton captain Graham Stuart has flown to Canada and undergone an operation on his damaged cruciate ligaments after a recommendation from his friend, West Ham midfielder Don Hutchison.

Stuart sustained the injury setting up the winning goal for Jason Euell on the second Saturday of the season in the 2-1 triumph at Bolton.

An operation could not take place straight away because his leg was swollen but Stuart spoke to Hutchison who told him about specialist Brian Day, who works in Whistler, a ski resort in North Vancouver.

Day, who specialises in ligament treatment, operated on Hutchison earlier this year.

Stuart is likely to be out for six months while he recovers and Charlton manager Alan Curbishley said: 'He had the op last Friday and he will be back in the next couple of days.

'Graham and Don are good friends, they talked to each other and he decided that is where he wanted to go.'

The Bolton match was Stuart's first as captain after taking over from Mark Kinsella who was sold to Aston Villa.
