England defender Gary Neville expects to be back in action for Manchester United within two or three weeks, he has revealed.
Neville, who suffered a broken metatarsal which forced him to withdraw from the England World Cup squad, says he is set to return to action in the reserves as he targets a comeback in the Old Trafford club's injury-hit defence.
He sustained the injury in United's Champions League first leg semi-final game against Bayer Leverkusen, but now has his sights firmly set on getting back into Sir Alex Ferguson's line-up.
Neville said: ''I'm hopefully going to play in a reserve team game next week, another a week later and maybe then look to be part of the first team.
'I would hope to be ready for selection in around two or three weeks.'
Neville also said he believed that team-mate Roy Keane would not be affected by the furore surrounding the serialisation of his controversial autobiography.
He added: 'He moves on from one day to the next, and whatever comes his way
he takes it in his stride.
'He goes out three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and is focused on what he wants to do.'
Keeper Fabien Barthez could be back in the United line-up for the crucial second leg Champions League qualifier against Zalaegerszeg.
Barthez picked up a hip injury during a pre-season friendly in Holland three weeks ago, but could play in the Old Trafford game, in which United must overcome a 1-0 deficit.
Ferguson explained: 'Fabien won't be fit for Friday at Chelsea, but may be okay for Tuesday against Zalaegerszeg. He is doing his training and we are quite hopeful.'
