Livingstone stays in hospital

Grimsby striker Steve Livingstone is to spend a second night in hospital after being carried unconscious from Blundell Park.

He will remain under observation although his condition is not giving cause for concern.

Livingstone was admitted to Grimsby's Diana Princess of Wales Hospital after a sickening collision with Derby defender Danny Higginbotham.

The game was held up for ten minutes as medics rushed to the stricken player.

Livingstone was left with blood pouring from a head wound and he was stretchered off the pitch in a neck brace.

A hospital spokesman said: 'He is fine now and very comfortable. He is sitting up in bed and talking.

'He will stay in for a further night so that we can keep him under observation.'

Grimsby went down 2-1 to Derby but manager Paul Groves was more concerned about Livingstone than the manner of the defeat.

'It was one of the worst sights I have seen in football. It must have been a severe bang for a big lad like Steve to go down like that,' he said.
