Gunners face Carini loan hitch

Arsenal are facing a goalkeeper crisis with the start of their Premiership season just four days away.

The loan move of Juventus goalkeeper Fabian Carini is on the verge of collapse because he is unable to agree terms.

It was generally thought he had signed on 26 July, and Arsene Wenger was even pictured with Carini holding an Arsenal shirt.

But today the Arsenal manager said the next 48 hours will be crucial in reaching a decision about the 22-year-old Uruguayan.

'He has not yet been registered because he has not yet signed his contract,' said Wenger. 'We were under the impression that personal terms had been agreed but that has turned out not to be the case.

'We will know in the next 48 hours if the matter will be resolved. But I have to say I am not optimistic and if he returns to Juventus then I have a problem.

'I cannot go into the season with just two goalkeepers, David Seaman and Stuart Taylor. I need another goalkeeper but because of the transfer window I have to sign a new goalkeeper by the end of the month.'
