Comeback boys will lift us - Sol
By John Edwards

Sol Campbell summed up the buoyant mood at Highbury yesterday by claiming Arsenal have even found a way around the recently-imposed restrictions on new signings.

While the transfer window will be shut to the rest of the Premiership from the end of this month until January 1, Arsenal have already earmarked two significant autumn additions to their line-up.

The England defender is convinced that the return of Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg from injury will make the Gunners all the better equipped to defend their Premiership crown.

Campbell said: 'Freddie and Robert will be back in October or November and it will be like having two new players.

'Everyone knows what they can do and it will give us real confidence to know they are on their way back. Being able to call on them will be a real plus, especially as Gilberto Silva will have settled in more by then.'

After firing home Arsenal's winner, second-half substitute Silva paid tribute to midfield partner Patrick Vieira for helping him adapt quickly to life at Highbury. He said: 'Patrick is a very charismatic and kind person. He has helped me on and off the field and we have been getting along very well together.'

Meanwhile, Dennis Bergkamp, who created Silva's goal, looks assured of a starting place this weekend against Birmingham. The Dutchman said: 'When I am on form I believe I will always be picked and I think the manager shares that view.'
