Huddersfield today unveiled Mick Wadsworth as their new manager.
Wadsworth, sacked as Oldham boss in May, takes over from Lou Macari after his
failure to steer the Terriers back into the First Division last season.
Town director Paul Haigh said: 'The chairman and three directors are in
complete agreement over the choice of the new manager.
'We have spent considerable time discussing the appointment and doing our
homework and we are confident we have chosen the right person for the job.
'The board and the new manager share the same progressive ideas about
Huddersfield Town's future.
'We expect the assistants to the new manager to be announced in the near
future,' Haigh told the club's official website, www.htafc.com.
Huddersfield chairman David Taylor revealed that new boss Mick Wadsworth was
recommended by newly-knighted Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson.
Wadsworth spent time as head coach at Newcastle under Robson, and the former
England boss still holds him in high esteem.
'Huddersfield Town are very proud to announce the appointment of one of the
foremost coaches in the country as their new manager,' said Taylor.
'He comes with the recommendation of one of the most famous managers in the
country - Sir Bobby Robson.
'Mick Wadsworth is highly respected throughout the game and it speaks volumes
that Bobby Robson did not want him to leave Newcastle last year.'
Wadsworth was in charge at Second Division Oldham last season, and has also
enjoyed spells in charge of Carlisle, Colchester and Scarborough.
He has a reputation within the game for nurturing young talent and the
Huddersfield board were clearly impressed by a CV that includes bringing through
the likes of Matt Jansen, Lomana Lua Lua and Rory Delap.
'His record for unveiling new talent is excellent,' said Taylor.
'He is a forward thinking coach in his methods, he is a very hard-working and
dedicated professional.
'We believe this is the right appointment for Huddersfield Town and we look
forward with excitement and optimism to this new era for the club.'
