Colchester in for second Gunner?

Colchester could be set to capture their second Arsenal player after inviting Greg Oates to train at Layer Road this week.

The centre-back was part of the Gunners side which won the FA Youth Cup two seasons ago and he is a regular member of the reserve squad at Highbury.

Us manager Steve Whitton has already signed striker Graham Barrett on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season and will assess Oates in a forthcoming reserve clash with Cheltenham.

Colchester are still in touch with the front-runners in Division Two and Whitton is keen to strengthen his defence, which has been deprived of injured pair Joe Dunne and Gavin Johnson recently.

Club spokesman Matt Hudson said: "He's been involved with the reserves at Arsenal and Steve said that he wanted to bring a defender in.

"He's come here for a week and should play for the reserves against Cheltenham."
