McKinlay joins Preston

Preston manager David Moyes has signed former Scotland international Billy McKinlay on a short-term contract.

The 32-year-old former Blackburn Rovers midfielder moved to Bradford City on a free transfer last season but was released after failing to make an impact.

However Moyes offered the midfielder the chance to train with Preston and will keep McKinlay at Deepdale on a week-to-week contract while he assesses the player's value to the club.

Moyes has serious injury problems, with Kevin Gallacher, Mark Rankine and Michael Keane just three of several players on the sidelines.

He said on the club's official website: "Because of our injury and suspension situation Billy will join us on a week-to-week contract.

"This will put Billy in the shop window and also help us out of our current situation.

"It is a contract with no obligations for Billy or ourselves and he is the sort of person who I wouldn't have any problems putting in the side if we need to use him."
