Carlisle await Newcastle reply on Beardsley

Carlisle are still waiting for permission from Newcastle to talk to Peter Beardsley about the vacant manager's position at Brunton Park.

The ex-England striker contacted the club last week to express his interest in the job, but Carlisle have heard nothing since.

A club spokesman said: "We approached Newcastle last week to ask for their permission to talk to him and we are still waiting for a reply.

"It's down to them now. There is a protocol in this situation and it has to be followed."

Meanwhile ex-Bohemians manager Roddy Collins has emerged as the favourite to take over having attended an interview at Brunton Park on Thursday.
