Carlisle look for more crucial points

Martin Carruthers could miss Scunthorpe's home clash against Carlisle with a groin injury.

Brian Quailey is expected to take his place should he not be fit.

Gareth Sheldon is definitely out with a suspected broken leg sustained in the 2-0 win over Shrewsbury.

Boss Brian Laws said: 'I'm pleased we are not the first team to play Carlisle after their 6-0 drubbing against Rochdale last week.

'When teams come off the back of a result like that you can expect some sort of backlash but hopefully that will be out of the way by the time they come to us.

'It's a big game for both sides as we need the points for the play-offs while they need the points to avoid relegation.'

Carlisle striker Carl Heggs could have earned himself a starting place against the Iron after coming off the bench to score the winner against Blackpool.

The Cumbrians could effectively end their relegation worries with victory over the Iron, and manager Ian Atkins should be able to name an unchanged squad.

Long-term casualties Steve Soley, Jamie Squires, and Mark Thurston will once again be missing for the game against Brian Laws' promotion-chasers.

Following the weekend win over Blackpool, Atkins said: 'That was the best way to respond after losing 6-0 midweek. Our three centre-backs defended with their lives.

'After these three points, we can go to Scunthorpe on Monday a little more relaxed. 'If anyone had told me back in November that we would be six points clear of the bottom I would not have believed them.'
