Bergkamp ready for Euro drive
By Steve Stammers

Dennis Bergkamp, Arsenal's non-flying Dutchman, is ready to play in Arsenal's two remaining Champions League qualifying group away games.

Arsenal resume their European campaign in Lyon next Tuesday and then finish their group matches in Munich on 14 March against Bayern Munich.

Bergkamp's phobia about flying means that he will have to make the trips to France and Germany by car and in the past Arsenal have tried to manage without him but he is happy to make the journeys.

He said today: 'When I saw the draw and those two two sides I thought then that it will be not be difficult to get there.

'I prefer to travel by car because you can pick your times and it is an easy journey. I can be involved, if the boss wants me. He will have to decide whether he thinks I will be okay after car journeys and whether he thinks he will need me.

'For me, it is not really a problem. If you spread it over two days. The drive to Lyon wouldn't be at all bad. There is a lot of fuss made about it but it is really not a bad thing. I am always well-rested and I have a good lay-down in the back.

'We will just have to see how the boss feels about it but I want to play and I want to be involved.'

In Bergkamp's favour is the timing of the game in France. It will be staged on Tuesday night, which means the Dutch striker would back in London by Wednesday night and Arsenal do not play again until the Sunday when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
