Symons sorrow at Coleman plight

Kit Symons admits he has mixed feelings about being handed another chance to prove himself in Fulham's first team.

The former Manchester City man was restored to the starting line-up against Manchester United on Sunday - but only because of the severe injuries suffered by car crash victim Chris Coleman. Symons looks certain to play against Norwich at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

The 29-year-old, who has played just nine times this season, was growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities but still wishes his return to favour had been under different circumstances.

The defender said: 'Everyone knows I've been desperate to play games - but certainly not at the expense of my best mate.

'The build-up to the game against United was not what you expect because everyone's mind was on Cookie. There was a very downbeat atmosphere at the club.'

However, the defender said that the squad is now fully focused again as they go in search of victory after losing consecutive games for the first time this season.

Symons said: 'Losing to Stockport was a big disappointment to everyone. We didn't play anything like as well as we can and now we just want to put that right.

'Personally, I hope to retain my place in the side for the rest of the season.

'All I can do is play as well as I can and, if selected, do myself justice.'
