The Addicks gave permission for the highly-rated Curbishley to
speak to FA technical director Howard Wilkinson about being handed a
future role in the set-up.
Curbishley is recognised by Wilkinson and FA chief executive Adam
Crozier as one of the country's brightest coaching talents and was
wanted as part of the new team which will be headed by
coach-in-waiting Sven-Goran Eriksson.
But it has been agreed by the club, the FA and Curbishley to put
any moves on ice until the end of the current domestic campaign.
This will have the benefit of allowing the FA further time to
decide what precise role they want Curbishley to handle whether it
be with the seniors, at under-21 level or even one of the youth
sides.
At present the likes of Peter Taylor and Steve McClaren have
already been earmarked as key members of Eriksson's team, while Brian
Kidd, Sammy Lee and Dave Sexton are involved with Wilkinson at
under-21 level.
The delay also allows Curbishley to concentrate 100% on ensuring
Charlton cement their place in the Premiership after gaining
promotion in the summer.
'The FA today confirmed that while considering their review of the
FA coaching set-up, Charlton Athletic were approached with a view to
obtaining permission to speak to Alan Curbishley,' said a FA
spokesman.
'Despite Alan's busy Premier League commitments, Charlton were
very generous in granting permission for Alan to speak with Howard
Wilkinson.
'However Alan, Charlton and the FA have jointly taken the view
that any decision on what precise role he could play should be
delayed until the end of the season.
'This is to allow Alan to continue focusing his attentions on his
role with Charlton.'
