Radio station talkSPORT today said they want to buy the rights to broadcast live commentaries in London of matches involving some of the capital's top clubs.
They have agreed to pay nearly £1.5million to cover Chelsea matches for the next three seasons and also want to strike deals with Arsenal, Tottenham, Charlton, West Ham and Fulham.
Kelvin MacKenzie, chairman of talkSport's parent company The Wireless Group , has written expressing his company's interest but is expecting objections from the BBC, whose Radio 5 Live station have national rights to Premier League games.
Programme director Mike Parry said: 'The BBC are urging the Premier League to prevent these deals but this will end up in the courts if anyone tries to stop us. What we are doing is perfectly legal because we only have the London rights and cannot broadcast anywhere else.'
The league denied they've received complaints and a spokesman for the BBC said they were not interested in talkSPORT's plans because they wouldn't affect their programming.
If MacKenzie's station buy the rights to London club's games it will put them in direct competition with Capital Gold.
