Full-time: Manchester City 0 - 4 Wimbledon
Soccernet.com

Wimbledon stunned Manchester City with a scintillating 4-0 victory at Maine Road.

City were as woeful at the back as they had been wonderful in attack when they scored six at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.

They were caught on the break for the first goal when David Connolly scored from the penalty spot and the Blues backline then went AWOL for Connolly to head home the second.

Substitute Neil Shipperley added to Keegan's misery and condemned his side to their first home defeat of an already topsy-turvy season when he scored twice in the last seven minutes.

It had all looked so different after a bright opening by City. Darren Huckerby, who played in place of the injured Paulo Wanchope, had a shot saved by Kelvin Davies before Shaun Goater glanced a header just wide.

Wimbledon were restricted to the odd effort on the break and Darren Holloway forced an acrobatic save from Nicky Weaver.

In the main, though, it was City doing all the attacking and it seemed just a matter of time before the first goal came.

It duly did on 22 minutes, but few expected it to come from the Dons.

It resulted from a counter-attack when Dickson Etuhu's drive rebounded off the hapless Goater and Michael Hughes raced upfield unchecked.

The Northern Ireland international let fly from around 25 yards out and although Weaver saved his shot, Ali Benarbia brought down Kevin Cooper who had latched on to the rebound.

Up stepped Connolly and the Republic of Ireland international rifled home the penalty.

City promptly fell apart and their defence went to sleep to present Wimbledon with a second goal on 34 minutes.

Jermaine Darlington skinned Richard Dunne on the left before crossing for the unmarked Connolly to head home from six yards out.

It could, and should, have been worse and Connolly wastefully headed over before Weaver saved well from Hughes.

Keegan's response at half-time was to haul off Dunne and bring on Alioune Toure, a £500,000 signing from Nantes, for his debut.

The Blues improved and Steve Howey missed a great chance to reduce the arrears when he headed just wide from Danny Tiatto's cross.

But the Dons still looked dangerous on the break and Joel McAnuff fired into the side-netting before Weaver made a great save from Connolly.

Then on 83 minutes Shipperley turned and fired home a right-foot screamer from 25 yards out.

There was still time for Shipperley to slot home the fourth in the third minute of stoppage time and the final whistle was greeted with boos from the few remaining City fans.
