Saturday, November 18, 2000
Full-time: Darlington 6 - 1 AFC Sudbury
Soccernet.com

A Glenn Naylor hat-trick sealed Darlington's place in the second round of the FA Cup as they romped past Jewson Wessex League side AFC Sudbury 6-1.

But the non-League side gave Gary Bennett's men a scare in the first half, taking the lead after 27 minutes through Andy Claydon.

Darlington were quickly level when Naylor kept his cool inside the area to side-foot the ball past Walton from 10 yards.

Darlington made a change at the interval, sending on Danish striker Jesper Hjorth, who replaced midfielder Brian Atkinson, and the Quakers looked a different side.

They took the lead in the 51st minute when winger Richard Hodgson volleyed home after Sudbury defender Nicky Stratton had failed to clear.

Four minutes later, Darlington effectively sealed their win. Striker Kevin Kyle fired in their third goal after goalkeeper David Walton and defender Chris Tracy had got in a tangle.

Darlington increased their lead in the 64th minute when Naylor blasted in his second goal as they started to run riot.

The visitors were camped in their own half and it was no surprise when Naylor grabbed his hat-trick in the 76th minute to finally kill off the plucky part-timers.

Sudbury continued to pass the ball around, but were caught out at the back three minutes from time when Hodgson broke clear and slotted the ball past Walton to complete the rout.
